Hay, What Have You Done For Me Lately?
This gallery installation included several media;
- a documentary video interview with my father
recounting his experiences growing up on a Minnesota hay farm - photographic images of bundled, bailed or stacked hay
printed on a synthetic silk substrate - typographic expressions of common phrasing/wordplay and poetry involving hay
printed on the baseboard of the main gallery room - a central sculptural pyramid of hay surrounded by concentric “furrows” of piled hay
Hay, as the first cultivated crop is treated symbolically as a central influence on the founding of civilization.
